App Review: VSCO Cam

VSCO Cam is the BEST camera app for the iPhone. Period. Now that you know where I stand, let me explain why I feel this way.

VSCO Cam has 48 filters. Yes, 48. And as a kicker each filter is adjustable, from 1-12. Meaning that each filter has 12 settings within it.  Quick math says that for one picture you have 576 possibilities and that is before you adjust exposure, contrast, temperature, tint, fade, vignette, shadows, highlights, sharpening, grain, etc.

Yea, it's beastly. What you can do in 2 minutes on your iPhone is unbelievable. Honestly, when I found VSCO Cam I was pissed that I hadn't found it earlier, that's how good it is.

You do have to pay for the filters. You can by them by the group or you can drop $8 and get all of them, thats about 16 cents per filter. It is worth every penny!

You get black and white filters, classic polaroid-esque filters, portrait filters, vivid filters, and faded filters. Seriously, I'm in love.

The app itself is beautiful. The design is clean, simple and...gasp...minimal. It's so intuitive and easy to use. It's fun just to scroll through your photos.

As an actual photo taking app, it rocks. You get the ability to set separate focus and exposure points, which you can lock. Along with this you have multiple flash settings and screen 'crop' settings. I put 'crop' in quotes because you can use these as guidelines for taking photos (square or thirds), it doesn't actually crop the photo. You can do this later, with options for multiple crop ratios (3:2, 4:3, 5:4, 1:1, 4:5, 3:4, 2:3).

On top of this the sharing options are fabulous. You can share to your VSCO Grid, which is the VSCO photo sharing network, to your camera roll, to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Email. Of course if you share to camera roll you can then share via text message. It's unbelievably easy to share your photos with those that you wish.

VSCO is a well known provider of camera awesomeness, the community around this app and the other VSCO solutions is great. Grid has the potential for some really cool stuff. It's a great place for inspiration and learning from other photographers. You should check it out. On top of this the VSCO Cam app is supported well and has many good days ahead of it.

If you haven't gotten ahold of VSCO Cam yet, what are you waiting for!!?? Do it now, you won't regret it!
