Life Is Transitory

The pastor at our church just returned from sabbatical during which he took a class with Walt Kaiser on Ecclesiastes. In this class Kaiser said that the definition of the word translated as 'meaningless' or 'vanity' is really 'transitory'. By this he means that Solomon's 'remorse' over the apparent pointlessness of life isn't accurate. Rather, Solomon as an old man is reflecting on the truth that life is transitory, it is always changing.

This has been messing with my head since I first heard it.

Life is always changing, I cannot be afraid of that change. I need to embrace the present, take pleasure in life and live with the understanding that the only one who is in control of the changing is God.
